State seismologist at the Alaska Earthquake Center
Mike directs the Alaska Earthquake Center, whose mission is to enhance earthquake resilience through monitoring, research, and public engagement. He holds a Ph.D. with distinction from Columbia University and counts his time teaching high school physics among his formative experiences. Mike serves as State Seismologist and represents state priorities to professional committees associated with the Seismological Society of America, the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, and the USGS Advanced National Seismic System. He is active in advocacy efforts to shape federal and state policy toward natural hazards and seismic monitoring.
